The North DeSoto Middle School system began generating power on March 24, 2000. This ground-mounting structure for this system is nearly identical to the one at Presidio, Texas, but Stonewall is located about 500 miles northwest of Presidio, and weather conditions at the two sites are very different. The system is rated at 4 kilowatts. ABOUT STONEWALL AND DESOTO PARISH Stonewall's population of approximately 1,266 residents includes about 503 families. It is the smallest community participating in the Watts On Schools program. The amount of land area in Stonewall is 17.928 sq. kilometers. The amount of surface water is 0.016 sq kilometers. The distance from Stonewall to Washington DC is 1081 statute miles. The distance to the Louisiana state capital is 204 statute miles. (Statute miles are "as the crow flies"). Stonewall is positioned 32.26 degrees north of the equator and 93.81 degrees west of the prime meridian. DeSoto Parish is located on the mouth of the Sabine River and at the beginning of the Toledo Bend Lake. The Louisiana Blueberry Festival is held the third weekend in June at the Airport Industrial Park on Hwy 171 north of Mansfield. River City Fest is held the first weekend in May in downtown Logansport. Duel on the Border is held in Logansport on the Toledo Bend Reservoir, in which drag boats race down the river at speeds up to 200 mph. Visit the Mansfield State Commemorative Area, located on Hwy 175. The Museum is open seven days a week. See the Historic Rock Chapel, built in 1891. Visit the original Log Courthouse built in 1843. It is the only surviving courthouse of its kind in the state.
