World Solar Challenge (Australia) - This site links to Australia's solar car and bicycle design competitions.

Solar Energy Educational Resources

Ask an Energy Expert - A great online form that allows you to ask your questions about renewable energy to a specialist at the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Clearinghouse (EREC). The expert will respond by mail, e-mail, or telephone as soon as possible.

InfinitePower Fact Sheets - A set of 21 fact sheets, with 7 designed especially for children, on all aspects of renewable energy.  The fact sheets were created by Planergy and the State of Texas and can be viewed online or downloaded in Adobe Acrobat format.

National Junior Solar Sprint (JSS) Competition - JSS is a fun educational program for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. The theoretical and hands-on engineering skills developed by the students over the course of the program culminate in the construction of a solar powered vehicle model designed to complete a 20-meter, wire-guided sprint race. Intended to be an annual program, it utilizes public and private-sector support to fulfill its goal of improving science education in middle/junior highs across the nation. This event began in 1990 as a pilot race and expanded to 10 regional competitions in 1991. This competition has grown in 1996 to 83 host sites in 26 states involving 100,000 students and 15,000 teachers.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Educational Programs - NREL's Education Programs strive to be fun and provide hands-on experiences with renewable energy technologies. This web site provides hands-on learning experiences for students and teachers in science, technology and math with an emphasis on renewable energy and energy efficiency.

On-Line Renewable Energy Education Module - CREST's online renewable energy education system. Based on an interactive kiosk also developed by CREST, this system uses words and pictures to teach the theoretical and practical basics of renewable energy.

SolarFacts - Ten informative fact sheets about solar energy provided by the Solar Energy Industries Association.

SolarGuide Factbase - This site is designed as an introduction to solar energy technologies, as well as a resource leading to more information on the state of four different solar energy technologies; photovoltaics, wind, solar thermal and buildings.  Provided by the American Solar Energy Society.

The SolarNow Project - A DOE website where you can learn about solar energy and find instructions for making a pizza box solar oven.

What is PV? - A primer on solar photovoltaics and PV systems, provided by the Utility Photovoltaic Group.

Government Agencies

US Department of Energy (DOE) - The Department of Energy is a leading science and technology agency whose research supports our nation's energy security, national security, environmental quality, and contributes to a better quality of life for all Americans.

Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network (EREN) - Funded by DOE, EREN consolidates federal information about all sources of renewable energy in an easy-to-navigate website.

Energy Information Administration (EIA) - The EIA is a statistical agency in the U.S. Department of Energy created by Congress in 1977. EIA's mission is to develop energy data and analyses that help enhance the understanding of energy issues on the part of business, government, and the general public.

National Renewable Energy Laboratories (NREL) - The U.S. Department of Energy's premier Laboratory for renewable energy & energy efficiency research, development & deployment.

Sandia National Laboratories, Renewable Energy Technologies Division - The purpose of the Renewable Energy Technologies Division at Sandia National Laboratory is to develop commercially viable energy technologies based on solar, wind, and geothermal resources that become significant domestic and international energy supplies, with a primary focus on the utility sector.

Non-Profit Organizations

American Solar Energy Society (ASES) - ASES is a national organization dedicated to advancing the use of solar energy for the benefit of U.S. citizens and the global environment. ASES promotes the widespread near-term and long-term use of solar energy.

Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies (CEERT) - CEERT is a unique collaboration of major environmental organizations, public interest groups and clean technology companies working to achieve a more sustainable energy future.

Houston Renewable Energy Group (HREG) - The Houston Renewable Energy Group (HREG) was established in 1999 with the primary goal to educate the Houston region on the power of renewable energy.  Houston's climate and availability of conventionally-generated power create special challenges and barriers to the incorporation of Renewable Energy (RE) systems.  The HREG network of RE enthusiasts, engineers, architects, specialists, and users provides a pathway to sensible energy conservation and generation, as well as a cleaner Houston.

International Solar Energy Society (ISES) - The International Solar Energy Society (ISES) represents an international network of scientists, business people and decision makers in more than 118 countries around the world.
