kilowatt-hours of electricity is equivalent to the mechanical energy in each of the following systems:

  • The space shuttle travelling at miles per hour.
  • A pound travelling at miles per hour.
  • hours of hard continuous work by a strong plow horse (average power output, 1 horsepower!).
  • watermelon.jpg (2774 bytes)A dropped from a height of miles (falling through a vacuum, just before it hits the ground!).
